Neil & Mary Cissel Friends of Arizona Highways Scholarship

One $1,000 award

WILL BE AWARDED EACH SPRING AND FALL SEMESTER 

The Arizona Highways PhotoScapes Scholarship Award is intended to support the academic achievement of Arizona university students majoring in career fields in which photography is significant and influential to their education. Qualifying students must be entering their third or fourth year of study at one of the three Arizona public universities (Arizona State University, University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University) upon the start of the Spring and Fall semesters. Suggested majors include fine art photography and photojournalism. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and be a full-time student. The scholarship award will be paid to the university in which the student is enrolled and then disbursed by the university into the student’s account.

FALL SEMESTER 2023 – DEADLINE IS JULY 31, 2023 
AND SPRING SEMESTER 2024 – DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 30, 2023

Portfolio: 6-10 images demonstrating your photographic abilities. Digital images should be high quality jpgs and no larger than 2MB. 
Introduction Letter: Please list your name, university, email address, residential address, phone number, major, and year of study that you will be in during spring the upcoming semester (PDF).
Cover Letter: Introduce yourself, explain your photography education and experience thus far and what future photography goals you have (PDF).
Short Essay: What role does photography play in today’s society and how does it influence your photographic career aspirations? (300-500 words , PDF).
Two letters of recommendation: One academic and one personal (PDF).
Transcript: One unofficial transcript (PDF).

Requirements

The applicant must be: a full-time student, pursuing a photography-related major; attend Arizona State University, University of Arizona, or Northern Arizona University; be entering his/her third or fourth year of study at the start of the fall 2023 semester; and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Prior AHPS scholarship award winners cannot reapply. Family members of AHPS staff and volunteers cannot apply.
