New Mexico is a beautiful state that I have always loved. Having lived there for a few months at a time over the years, its history and mix of cultures never fail to captivate. It is, indeed, “the Land of Enchantment”.

Last fall I had the opportunity to spend two days exploring some of the very old, mostly Catholic churches in the northern part of the state with a small group from the Corrales Arts Society.
Here are just a few of my many favorites:
My friends Dennis and Lynda, who led the tour, had done extensive research to find some hidden gems along with a few of the more famous ones.
We carpooled along many tiny country roads winding into small villages along the way. Some of us were photographers; others came for the history and stories.
In all, we visited 26 churches, beginning near Albuquerque. Red River was our overnight stop, and we ended in Chimayo. It was a whirlwind, but wonderful for planning future trips.
Currently, AHPS is not offering this as a workshop, but perhaps in the future we will. Let us know if you are interested.
