Calling All Cloud Lovers!

Cloud Appreciation Society

What landscape photographer doesn’t love clouds? Did you know there is a society that has been created just for us? Gavin Pretor-Pinney and cloud aficionado from the United Kingdom began the group Cloud Appreciation Society in 2005 on a whim, but it has turned into a society with over 51,000 members world-wide. (I’m #50,827).

Anyone can take a look and play around on their website but to really get all it has to offer there is an annual membership fee. You get a cloud identifier wheel and can get the Cloud of the Day emailed to you every single day, among having access to many of members and forums. With your membership account you can post your own cloud photos and enter them to be considered for being honored as cloud of the day. Each day you can learn more and more about wonderful clouds!

Much of the website is based on learning to identify clouds, how they are formed, where they tend to form, and other interesting details.

Members can also download their app: Cloud a Day which is full of interesting clouds and other optical phenomena images including their descriptions and explanations. At this point I am not sure if it is for members only or if anyone can download it.

Happy Cloudspotting!
